Last Intrasquad meet Wednesday

It is sad to think that we will be swimming our last Intrasquad meet of the season on Wednesday, July 12th.  This meet will begin at 5:30pm with warm-ups starting at 5:00pm.  Swimmers can sign-up for 2 individual events (or 3 if they are trying to qualify for League and/or State).

You won’t want to miss this night.  Swimmers will be swimming fast, parents will be helping time, pizza will be served and coaches will be swimming.  Everyone is going to want to stay until the end of the meet to witness our coaches swim.  The Gator coaches will swim in a medley relay against swimmers in each age group (as well as parents).  We will put together relays that night but parents please come prepared to participate.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  We will plan to see you all on this fun entertainment filled evening.

Saturdays meet

This Saturday will be the Gators last away meet for the season (that is hard to believe).  If your swimmer is swimming in this meet they need to sign-up today.  If they didn’t sign-up at the pool today during practice please send an email to gmstgators@aol.com.  This applies to swimmers who were on vacation this week but will be at the meet on Saturday.  Please include in this email the three individual events they want to swim and also if they can participate in relays.

Parents we need your help timing.  There are still slots available so please click here to sign-up.  If your swimmer is swimming the IM we need you to sign-up for third shift timing.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Schedule 7/3-7/9

We hope you all enjoyed your swim free weekend.  Here is what this week looks like.

No morning practice Monday or Tuesday

Regular morning practice Wednesday-Friday

Wednesday, July 5th:  Starts/Turns stroke clinic 9:45-10:15 (swimmers must already be signed-up to attend this clinic)

Thursday, July 6th:  Evening practice 8:00-9:00pm for upper division and parents.  Please don’t forget to let Porter know if you will be there.

Saturday, July 8th:  GMST vs Applewood Knolls (meet starts at 7:00am and warm-ups begin at 6:30am).  Swimmers need to sign-up for their events at the pool by the end of practice on Thursday.  Parents please see the volunteer sign-up to help out during this meet.  Many families are still on vacation so we need your help.

Thank you and have a wonderful July 4th!

No morning swim practice 7/3 or 7/4

Happy July 4th to all of our swimmer families!  Please note there will be NO swim practice on Monday, July 3rd or Tuesday, July 4th. (This includes morning and night practice.)

Fridays practice wasn’t highly attended and we heard a lot of swimmer having weekend plans.  We anticipate the number of swimmers to be light on Monday so we have decided to cancel practice.

We hope all families have a great holiday weekend!  We will see you all Wednesday morning.

Swimmer of the week- Week 3

We would like to recognize our swimmers for this week.

Male Swimmer of the Week:  Harry Wahlberg
Despite the challenging circumstances of the sub 60 degree weather Saturday morning, Harry had some fantastic swims.  It is no easy to swim fast when you’re freezing, but Harry managed to drop time in several races.  He decidedly trounced the competition in everyone of his heats, always giving his full effort.  Harry’s focus and drive are always prominent in practice, and we as coaches have no doubt more time drops are in Harry’s future.  Great work Harry!

Female Swimmer of the Week:  Marie Handy
Marie had some great swims this past weekend at Ken Caryl.  She won the 200 IM and the 100 Fly, ultimately winning the High Point award for the 13-14 age group.  Ken Caryl is a very competitive meet, so being the top scorer in one of the most competitive age groups is quite a feat.  Marie has been working hare all season and has been working hard all year and has exemplified much of what we look for in our Gator swimmers.  Great job Marie!
