– 6/24: Applewood Knolls is a large team so this will be our longest dual meet. We will have grass space for a team tent and parental tents/chairs, etc. Entries are due by Thursday 6/22. Please sign up to help (on the sidebar of the blog)
– 6/25 League Merch Pre-Orders: Genesee is hosting League this year and is trying to do pre-orders for League merchandise. There will be limited supplies on the day of as well. If you know your swimmer is going to League, please order gear in advance from this site:( https://fsa-league-2023.itemorder.com/shop/home/ ) All orders are due by Sunday 6/25.
– 6/25: We have 2 meets this day and both require qualification. Please check the Top Times report on the sidebar to see if your swimmer qualifies.
—For the C/D meet, your swimmer must have a “C” time or below to be at this meet. Please note that an “A” time means they qualified for League and a “B” times means they are just around the corner from qualifying. The C/D meet is a fun meet for the kids that are a little slower in the pool and want to race against other swimmers that are at a similar speed. It’s very motivating! Entries will be due by Friday 6/23 and we will need timers to help day of.
—For the Pentathlon: The pentathlon consists of 5 events and your swimmer must complete all 5 of these events at the meet. Swimmers must have a B time or better in 4 of the 5 disciplines (freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke, or IM). Swimmers can talk to the coaches if they have questions. Entries will be due by Friday 6/23 and we will need timers to help day of.
– 6/26: Practice will be cancelled on Monday to give our coaches and swimmers a much needed break after a packed week of meets!
– 6/28 is a dual event day… It’s our annual picture and pancake day. Pictures will start at 8am. Please have your swimmer wear their team suit. Our fantastic local photographer, Alex Hearn, will take a team pic and age division pics. She will only take individual pics if your kid lines up to have those done. All pictures will be found on a weblink a couple of weeks after the event and can be purchased online. We will serve Gator-cakes (green pancakes) after pictures are complete. — We also have a team day at Water World (weather depending). This is an optional event (as they all are) and we will check the weather as we get closer to make sure this is the best day to go. You can order discount tickets from our link on the sidebar of the blog. We will find an area for the team to put their stuff and have a general meeting place. Outside of that, parents will need to drive their kids to the park and be responsible for them during the day. A lot of kids wear their team suits to this event, as it’s always fun to see Gators around the park all day.
– 7/1: All teams in our League have a BYE this weekend.
– 7/5: Our final Intrasquad is happening right after the July 4th holiday, which makes sign-ups a bit tricky. We will post the entry sheets the week before and pull sheets on Monday 7/3 at practice.
Volunteers for Saturday 6/17
We still need volunteers for Saturday, especially Timers. If there is a Timer spot open, please start there. Go to our sign-up genius to sign up (or click on the sidebar of the blog):
Swim Team: Week of 6/12 Updates
Summary:
– Tue/Thurs: Night Practice (upper division only). Parents welcome!
– Saturday 6/17: Home meet against GOLDEN!
– Qual Times Corrections
– Facebook updates
Details:
– Night Practice: Don’t forget that parents can swim with the Gators at Night Practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-9pm.
– We have our first home meet against our favorite team: Golden! We have a friendly rivalry with the Marlins and we always have fun swimming against their team. We will need A LOT OF HELP since we are at home. Please sign up.
– Qual Times: Every year the Qual Times for League/State are calculated based on the previous year’s League and State finisher times. Our League times have been adjusted for 2023, however their was a couple of mistakes buried in the computer file. They didn’t specify which events this affected, so if you notice a discrepancy, we should be up to date now. The posted times are correct.
– Facebook: Follow our team on Facebook to see team updates, as well as photos from most of the meets.
AAC Meet Updates (SAT 6/10)!
We’ve got some new (and exciting) things happening at our Saturday meet with AAC. If you will be at Applewood Athletic, please read through so the meet can run a smoothly as possible.
The meet will be run by a new software system called Swimmingly. This may be an in-the-weeds type thing for parents, but we do need you to take action.
– Parents: you can download an app called SWIIMINGLYFAN that will allow you to see real-time results from the race. (please note: results will be available on our website (as usual) after the event. So this is not mandatory.
– Timers: you will need to download an app called SWIMMINGLY to time the swimmers during the race. (you will use your smartphone instead of the timing watches) – if you are an Adroid user and having troubles, we’ll figure it out on Saturday. Don’t panic. We’ve got this!
– Officials: you will need to download the SWIMMINGLY app to officiate.
– Swimmers: You will be assigned an athlete number (e.g. 26) and this number will be sharpied onto your shoulder when you arrive at the meet. You can NOT enter the pool without this number on your shoulder.
Finally, we always get instructions of where to camp out at AAC and here is the latest for Saturday:
– The grass is OFF LIMITS. (this also means that kids will not be able to walk through the grass to get to the playground. Sorry)
– Please do not bring tents and limit the amount of chairs you bring.
– Our team will be under the pavilion (on the east side) at picnic tables and AAC will have the west-ish side.
– It will be tight, so plan to be cozy. Please tell your swimmers to keep it tidy and not spread out. If you are not standing/sitting on concrete for this meet, you are doing it wrong.
As always, thanks for your flexibility. We will have fun checking out a whole new system that may show up at other pools throughout the year 🙂
